A friend just turned me on to this trailer. It’s gotta be one of the worst things I’ve seen as of late. I can’t wait to see it. I’m not sure what this means for DJs and electronic music culture in general, but there’s a sliver of me that’s nervous. Worried that DJ Girl has water skies strapped on and is just about to the top of the ramp. Oh no is that a shark I see.
For Royer Adams, life started on the dancefloor, but it didn’t really begin until she dropped her first record. DJ Girl, a new featured length romantic comedy, follows the adventures of this nightclub ingénue as she discovers an unexpected talent on the ones and twos. With a cheeky best friend on her side and a cute but reluctant teacher there for support, Royer dives headfirst into a boys-club that’s no exactly open to a smiling girl simply out to have a jealous ex with a headphone fetish, a bitchy club owner, the world’s cattiest fashion designer and a man named Carrottop. By the end of it all one thing becomes abundantly clear—experience is overrated.
