Time is moving incredibly quick this year—summer time is technically two months away. And you know what that means—killer festivals. One I’m looking forward to is Hard Summer in Los Angeles on August 3 and 4.
About four hours ago the official line-up (some expected names and a few surprises) was published on Hard’s Facebook page. I did expect Skrillex to perform a set—he usually performs at Hard events. Same with the Bloody Beetroots, Boys Noize, Chromeo, A-Trak and Nero. The group I didn’t expect is Bloc Party. I’ve been listened to them since high school and never got the chance to see them live. There was a moment in life when I accepted the fact I wouldn’t get the chance to hear my favorite songs (“Helicopter,” “The Prayer,” “Hunting For Witches,” “The Banquet”) live. I’m confident Bloc Party will draw a massive crowd at Hard and I’m pretty confident they’ll deliver a chills-down-the-spine set. So thanks for that Gary Richards. Magnetic Man, who doesn’t even need words to describe how exceptionally talented they are within the dubstep community, is also due to play. Datsik, James Murphy, Little Dragon, Zedd, Dillon Francis will perform DJ sets at the festival while Miike Snow, Nero and Gesakkelstein will treat fans to live sets.
There’s one group that I wish, one group I’m hoping will be added to the bill with thy fingers crossed, and that’s Crystal Castles. I’ve waited years to see them live. Maybe it’s just me, but I do believe if they were on the bill it would heighten this line-up to the next level. I mean who wouldn’t want to hear the vocals of Alice Glass live? Just saying… Cheers!
