Fresh off jamming in Miami with fellow Grammy-nominated SHM members, Sebastian Ingrosso came to NYC this past Easter weekend to give the “big apple” a little present. Ingrosso headlined back-to-back parties this holiday weekend at Roseland Ballroom Fri. April 6th and Sat. April 7th, in his first NYC performance since selling out Madison Square Garden this past December 2011 with SHM.

I got to Roseland a little after midnight to catch the end of Refune Record Labels own; “Style Of Eye” set which was pretty awesome. Upon arrival you could immediately tell that Easter that next morning was going to have an impact on the size of the crowd. This was honestly one of the only times, if ever, that the crowd was a perfect ten in terms of “personal-party-space” (PSP)—pretty much the amount of space a person has to get down at any given event. Don’t get me wrong, the venue was far from empty but it was just not your typical mad house inside, where people are usually in desperation for room to enjoy themselves and dance. Since the hype of EDM across the US in recent years, shows have become overwhelming in terms of crowds, etc. but lets just say on this night “PSP” was absolutely perfect, ha.

Ingrosso manned the decks at around 1 am and did not waist time getting things going. He dropped SHM newly released “Greyhound” to a screaming and excitingly anxious crowd as his way to kick off the night and the crowd absolutely loved it. The place went from absolute darkness into a lighting show galore for the next few hours—LED screens in front-and-back of the DJ, circling spotlights, strobe lights and, of course, lasers. Ingrosso transitioned into fellow SHM member, Axwell, recut club version of Michael Calfan’s “Resurrection” (a current favorite of mine), then on to Deniz Koyu ‘s, “Tung!” then mixing on to protégé’ Alesso’s track, “Raise Your Head.” It was a great start to a banging night!

I think Ingrosso was aware of the holiday and size of the crowd and really played according to the night—aka the dude just threw the crowd a party. His set included a variety of mixes from a multitude of artists, such as Coldplay, Jay-Z and Diddy, Tommy Trash, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Daft Punk and the list goes on… It was honestly just a really fun night and I think everyone at Roseland really enjoyed themselves this past “Easter Eve”—including the star, Ingrosso.

The night ended at 5 am and it certainly was a successful one. I got to catch Sebastian Ingrosso on one of the quieter club nights in awhile. I consider what happened that night as a steal as I was able watch Ingrosso’s set in peace before he headed out to Cali to reunite with the squad, Axwell and Steve Angello, to play at Coachella. What could be a better way to start Easter morning? I do not know.
