It’s killing me, I feel like there’s been more “laughing” songs in the electronic music world than I can think of right now. Of course there’s the Crookers’ “That Laughing Track” (the reason for this post, peep their video below) that the Italian duo did in collaboration with Swedish producers Carli from Savage Skulls and Style of Eye. That tune, off their Dr. Gonzo album, came out late last year via Mad Decent and has proven itself to be a monster—everyone from Tiesto, Diplo, Jack Beats to Boys Noize have entertained dancefloors with it. And the video bellow by Jerome Potter (LOL Boys) and Johnny Woods is pretty awesome too. What’s not to love about a gang of masked hoodlums, a coffee break during the breakdown and a pleathora of neon colors that oddly match the tone of the psychotic laughing. Nothing if ask me.
And while I’m at it, enjoy these other “laughing” tunes. Josh Wink’s acidic mindbender “Don’t Laugh” from back in 1995 was a big favorite of mine. The cheeky VideoKids tune from the ‘80s, “Woodpeckers From Space” is oddly entertaining. The VideoKids was fronted by Dutch DJ/producer Peter Slaghuis from Hithouse fame. Older folk might remember such 90’s classics as “Jack To The Sound Of The Underground,”“Move Your Feet To The Rhythm Of The Beat” and “Blast Off.” I’ll sign off with the only other "laughing" tune I can think of that also happens to be one of my personal favorites: The Residents’ off kilter and theatrical “Laughing Song.”
BTW, there’s four remixes (Milano, Sona Vabos, Sound Of Stereo and TWR72) for Crookers’ tune that’s out now and you can pick it up here.
