I’m sure many of you Magnetic readers out there visit a city or town specifically to go to a gig or festival. What about taking it a step future by visiting the birthplace of your favorite genre and tracing the journey of said genre to its current form. That’s basically what they did here with this map and it’s pretty awesome. The map details the evolution of western dance music over the last 100 years. The map shows the time and place where each of the music styles were born and which blend of genres influenced the next.

Trying to tackle all possible sub-genres would be mind numbing, so the map shows the evolution of top-level dance genres only. The sources used to create the map include Bass Culture, Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, The All Music Guide to Electronica and Wikipedia.
