Event Recap: React Presents Brings Festival Season In Chicago To A Close With North Coast Music Festival

Chicago once was one of those untapped markets when it comes to EDM. In the most recent months React Presents put an end to that. Starting with Spring Awakening at the beginning of summer and then into Somerset, Wisconsin for their 3-day camping “Midwest Coachella” festival called Summer Set and finally ending the festival season with their most recent festival, North Coast Music Festival.

The line up looked like a Christmas list when it came to the number of high profile acts, experiencing the festival on the other hand was something much greater than going downstairs to see that you got every present you wished for.

North Coast festival pulled all the strings on the summer ending festival over Labor Day Weekend. The festival featured 4 Stages and 2 silent disco stages, where you wore headphones and rocked out. The festival also featured about a million after parties ranging from Girl Talk to Steve Angello to Alesso.

Beside a stellar lineup, React, featured some of their brightest new comers of the Chicago area to open for the big guys. The opening night, Axwell stole the show away from great acts before him such as Knife Party, Midnight Conspiracy and Mord Fustang. Alesso was on the ballot next and like I said anything “Swedish” draws the biggest crowd. He set the mood for the rest of the night in his hour set. Girl Talk was the last act that we saw. Not the biggest fan of the mash-up producer but he was exactly what I needed to go into day 3. Gave us a big party and only wanting more and that more was to come on the eve of Labor Day.

Labor Day’s eve, creatures were crawling as some struggled to make the 3-day event complete. However, attendance seemed higher which makes sense for the lineup that was going to happen. Fears of a Chicago down pour of rain were always in the back of our mind but it wasn’t going to stop the festival. Chuckie (pictured above) brought his Dutch house music to Chicago and of course his great personality. Chuckie is his best MC. After Chuckie followed OC native, Steve Aoki. Cake, rafts and champagne were among his arsenal of weapons to use against his fans. The biggest party of Chicago was happening during Aoki’s set. Just when you thought the night was over because Steve was leaving the decks, reality set in and there was one more act. Torn between Steve Angello and Pretty Lights, we went with the path most followed…
