This past Saturday we were lucky enough to get the invite to join Toolroom Records on a private yacht cruise to celebrate their 10th Anniversary. Let’s just say there is no better way to close out Miami Music Week than being aboard a private 93-foot yacht with top shelf DJs (and booze) and great party people.
The event was presented by MOX, the new online music/content portal specializing in EDM, who also made a big splash at conference with a series of bus parties that rolled through SoBe with top DJs. Unfortunately we missed the bus parties, but no complaints here because we’re more “yacht people” anyway. There's some pretty awesome videos of all the madness, check 'em out here.
"Beyond the glitz and glamor, MOX's presence in Miami this week is focused on solidifying and building relationships with artists and labels," said MOX's co-founder and CEO, Carter Laren. "It's not all about the party-Toolroom is a unique label with impressive international appeal, and we're just happy to work with them," he added. "That said, if it doesn't end worse than a Carnival cruise then I've failed as CEO."
Well Carter, you and the MOX crew totally nailed it. The boat was a little slow to leave the harbor but who cares really, more time for the revelers to get their sea drinks, err legs.
Mark Knight and crew supplied an incredible soundtrack of classics, everything from deep and funky house, disco and even some soul music to make the trip a memorable one.
The highlight of the trip was when we pulled into a yacht tailgate of sorts and watched Ultra from the waterway for a little while. We even got a visit from the water cops telling us to turn down the music, which they did for about 5 minutes, then back to bumping it as we pulled away. Yeah, fuck you water cops… you can’t stop this party.
After leaving the yacht we headed for a meeting over on Ocean Blvd feeling like champs and ready for another drink. Here is a word of advice, never get a drink at any place that is on Ocean Blvd and if you do, read the menu VERY closely. We ended up with two 32 Oz drinks each, a $75 tab and a crippling buzz that led us to T-Mex Tacos on 14th for a full fiesta blowout. Started off in a yacht and ended up in a local taco dive (which is delicious, not dissing), well that’s Miami for ya.
Until next year. Big thanks to Toolroom and MOX for having us aboard.
