When I was 15, in the North-west of England.... the record cover to me was like a picture window to another world. Seeing an Andy Warhol illustration on a Velvet Underground album was a revelation.... It was the art of your generation... true pop art. -Peter Saville
I'm not going to get all back in my day on you, but it's a bummer that the whole concept of album cover art is pretty much gone. The once carefully crafted and impeccably produced product, that ideally offered up some insight to the music inside, seems to be barley even a thought with most producers these days. That said… If you like New Order, Factory Records and the art of Peter Saville, check these out.
New Order's album Power, Corruption & Lies, recently turned 30 and in celebration of said marker, Supreme and Vans have pasted the iconic floral cover on a pair of sneakers.
Wonder how Peter Saville feels about that? Seems a bit off, but if you think about it purely an '80s level it works. If you've gotta have these, get ready to hit outside one of the Supreme shops for a minute or two. Or just go online. Oh wait, they're sold out.
