It's not everyday that you get to interview one of the hottest Dutch DJs on the EDM circuit. (Is this real life?) We caught Dannic on the cusp of his propulsion to intergalactic superstardom, following the likes of fellow Revealed Recordings artist and founder, Hardwell.
His musical imprints are all over sets by some artists you may know such as Tiësto, Avicii, Hardwell, Nicky Romero and the Bingo Players. And his latest release "Viper" was aired during Hardwell's UMF set, which gained a "modest" 2.5 million views in two weeks on YouTube.
Dannic's summer schedule has been a whirlwind of EDM festivals including EDC Las Vegas, Tomorrowland and stints in Ibiza. We're feeling pretty lucky to have some one-on-one time with the very talented DJ Dannic.
You’ve been praised by some pretty big names like Tiësto and Hardwell--how do you feel about that? Why did you stand out?
Getting acclaim for your work from anyone is a great feeling. But to be endorsed by guys on the level of Tiësto and Hardwell is unbelievable. Tiësto is someone I have always looked up to an admired from a young age, what he has achieved is incredible.
I think there are similarities within our music, which is the reason he started supporting my tracks. As for Hardwell, we have been really good friends for many years now, we met in our local bar and immediately clicked as we had similar ideas about music. I began showing Hardwell some of my music and he was always really supportive and enthusiastic which made me keep focused and working hard at my productions.
What’s it like working with Hardwell?
Working with Hardwell is really eye opening; he’s such a talented producer. I take away so much knowledge from the way he works and it has really helped me improve as a producer. His attention to detail is at a different level to most, which is the reason I feel his music has had such a big impact. It is the attention to detail that I try to apply to my own work. Hardwell often tells me he doesn’t release something unless he is 100% happy with how it has come out. I think the results from this approach are proven when you look at the success Revealed Recordings has had.
If you could collaborate with anyone across any genre, who would it be?
This is a difficult one; there are so many musicians from different genres I respect so much, as well as a host of dance music producers I would love to work alongside.
Can I give you two?
If it was a dance music producer it would have to be Fedde Le Grand, I have always admired his work and respected what he does. Away from dance music I’d love to work with Stevie Wonder because he has an incredible voice and just love the funk!
Song of the summer?
Alesso vs OneRepublic – If I Loose Myself, I have played it during all my sets at
festivals this year, that vocal and melody are so strong!
What’s next for Dannic?
Keep working on music! I have so much I want to put out and so many ideas going around my head! The 19th of August my track 'Rocker' will be released on Revealed Recordings and I have a collaboration with Sick Individuals which will be out later this year which I’m super excited about.
Also during August I will be supporting Hardwell in the US for his Go Hardwell or Go Home tour which I'm really looking forward to, as well as a list of festival appearances and a couple of shows in Ibiza. It is pretty much nonstop at the moment but very exciting.
