EDM Interview: Yves V About Tomorrowland, Rock Band Collaborations, and What's Next In New Electronic Music

Do you know where Benelux is? Us either, but apparently it's the nexus between Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and pure new electronic music talent. And home to DJ on the rise, Yves V. He's talented, he's garnered critical acclaim from superstar DJs, and he's played at some tiny back alley festivals like mainstage of Tomorrowland, Sensastion, Mysteryland, and in concert with David Guetta. He's also slanged some remixes with the likes of Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Angger Dimas, Ian Carey, and Genuine.

You can find him across DJ sets and radio playlists for DJS like David Guetta, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Dannic. We jumped at the chance to have a little one-on-one time with Yves V to chat about what's next, Tomorrowland, and his meteoric rise to the top.

So, curating a stage at Tomorrowland, how was that?

That was a dream come true. V-Sessions is the name of my radio show. Last year we had the idea of hosting a stage that gave you the music that I play during my radio shows: a wide range from progressive house through to electro house, were I invited some of my colleague DJs. Last years line up was with Bingo Players, Felguk, Tristan Garner, Adrian Lux, Bassjackers and many more. It was such a huge success so we decided to repeat it and do it bigger. First of all I am happy that I have some producers on my line-up that I admire, such as Pete Tong, Eric Prydz and Nicky Romero. It's an honor to work with them. Aside from that I've got some great producers and DJs on stage with whom I have collaborations, like Michael Calfan and Felguk. We created a new and bigger stage this year and it was a massive success. :)

What was your favorite moment from the set?

During my set at the V Sessions stage we had a problem with the audio system for a few minutes. While the technicians were solving the problem, I jumped on the Dj booth and tried to entertain the crowd, these minutes were insane and the party was even crazier when I started my set again. It seemed to add something special.

If you could only play one venue/event which would you choose?

Besides Tomorrowland? :) It actually doesn't matter to me how big or small the club or event is, I just need a good crowd with the right atmosphere to party all night long.

If you weren't producing and playing music, what would you be doing?

Until 2 years ago I was a teacher (Sports) but I'm not living my dream full time. This is what I've always aimed to do in my life and I am very grateful I can now live this dream out.

If you could collaborate with anyone across any genre, who would it be?

I think I would go for a rock band like GreenDay or Guns n Roses (original line up). I'd like to try and work on something different, combine both our worlds and talents and create a unique track. It would be really cool to do this plus I'd get to work with bands I have the upmost respect for.

The future of EDM music is _______?

Very bright. I'm excited to see what we all take it next. The sky really is the limit and I think we can take it to a whole new level. I'm proud to be a part of this scene.

What's next?

TomorrowWorld, touring in South America, Asia, etc… lots of studio work. The remainder of this year and into next is looking very exciting for me. I have some amazing studio collaborations lined-up which I can't wait to reveal. My new track "Sonica" with Paul Aiden is out on Spinnin on August 19th.
