EDM Culture: Los Angeles Events This Week With Manik, Lauren Jane, Major Lazer, Inhalt & More

Stuck in some nasty traffic on my drive home from work last night, I was feeling rather beat down and burned out. Then some tasty tunes on my trusty lil VW speakers had my ride bumpin' and turned my frown upside down. Quickly I was reminded of all the musical talents gracing L.A yet again, and given a 2nd wind to write em' down. So enjoy & indulge. Summer forever...

The folks at Perfect Driver Music present ROBOT EARS, a Wednesday monthly @ Room 86 in Hollywood. Bringing a refined underground sound ranging from Deep House to Techno. If you aren't familiar with this venue, you are in for a treat. Room 86 is the adjoining lounge to Dim Mak Studios and is the newest renovation to the venue. The old Hollywood themed lounge includes an indoor smoking patio and is styled out in chic red décor. With the smoldering sounds provided and sexy scenery this night is bound to be smokin'(no pun intended).

Lauren Lane (Visionquest, Saved Records)
Dirty Work (MDA)
Amanda Panda

$10 at the door (18+, $10 all night)
Open Vodka Bar 10-10:30

The lovely Lauren Lane killed it at Coachella, the Visionquest stage at Wavefront Chicago with Seth Troxler, and Kool Beach at the BPM festival in Playa Del Carmen. Fresh off of her 'Cool Kids' release on Nic Fanciulli's Saved Records, this chick is comin' in hot!

Amanda Panda took on DJing just three years ago, and has rapidly made a mark in SD, SF and of course LA where she currently resides. From driving techno to soulful house, she never wants to be pigeonholed into one style or genre. Getting major props when she played with Green Velvet, this talented lady is one to be watched and don't let the innocent dimples or cute nickname fool you. She plays one ferocious set.

INHALT consists of European and East Coast natives– Matia Simovich, Bryan Gibbs, and Philip Winiger– . After experiencing the plummeting of the music industry and professional studio system while working at Asphodel Records/ Recombinant Media Labs, INHALT needed to create their own creative working environment. Thus, they designed and built The Bunker Studio. Designed around the ideology of employing the best of vintage and modern technologies and technique. With the raw electronics of the likes of Kraftwerk and the drive of Moroder disco, but ultimately their own interpretation of the border between the past and the present. The word "inhalt" translated from german means "content" and prepare to immerse yourself in it, in a very vibey warehouse with stellar sound.
Watch the Video here.

Israel Vines has over 20 years of DJ experience, bringing a level of purpose, skill, and awareness to mixing that only comes with time and passion. Currently based in Los Angeles but a Midwesterner at heart, Israel discovered techno music as so many growing up in Michigan did: via the sounds of the Belleville Three and Underground Resistance. He started DJing soon thereafter. Moves between Chicago and Detroit followed, and included a three-year stint at Gramaphone Records, a Chicago institution where the likes of Derrick Carter and DJ Heather paid their dues. Israel’s approach to DJing is all-inclusive, incorporating classics, house, techno, and dubstep rhythms to create a sound that’s far from purist.

VSSL is the creation of Mikey Nightchilde, Genevieve D, and Remy Marc, each long-time deejays with a taste for the dark and the deep. The VSSL crew states this as their mission statement; "THE MIND IS A PRISON. THE BODY A VESSEL. A NIGHT OF MOVEMENT. AN ESCAPE."
