VIVA LA HARVEY...
There are leaders in this world, and there are followers. Then there are legends like DJ HARVEY who set their own set of rules. Eclectic being an understatement of this dude's musical storytelling capacity. We are privileged this week L.A to allow our eardrums and dancing feet access without a secret warehouse location to the man, DJ HARVEY! Make sure to do your disco stretches prior to this special 4 hour set ya'll. See you under the disco ball lights.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19

DJ HARVEY. THE CITY BELONGS TO ME PRESENTED BY RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY  @ SOUND. HOLLYWOOD

DJ Harvey, born in England by the given name Harvey Bassett has a cult following among DJs and music heads all over the globe. Originally a punk drummer till early influences from the hip hop scene of new york in the 80's inspired him to start using turntables, this avid surfer's DJ style is described by critics as a mix of classics and fresh disco/garage/house. However if any of you have ever seen a Harvey set, you know he play's whatever the fuck he wants(pardon my french),yet always for the crowd. He describes his style best by saying this;

EDM Culture: Los Angeles This Week With DJ Harvey, Tornado Wallace, Golden Touch, Jimmy Edgar, Kauf And More

You can't understand blues till you've had your heart broken, and you can't understand my music till you've had group sex on ecstasy.

His music clout runs deep, since being played on the radio at only thirteen years of age in one of his early projects. Setting the precedent for underground London raves and impressive releases and remixes with influential artists jumping thru genres effortlessly. Rolling Stone recently featured him as one of the 25 DJ's that rule the planet (no biggie!) and he slayed his set at this years Coachella festival.

Harvey Sarcastic Disco is a world renown one-off quarterly underground event done as a collaboration between DJ Harvey and Sarcastic Clothing, and although his upcoming gig @ SOUND is approved by Sarcastic, don't get it twisted folks, this ain't a SARCASTIC DISCO event. However, he did send out a press release stating some pretty sweet ass things that should make you stoked on this gig: "Harvey has wanted to throw a free 'I love L.A' party for a while now to show his appreciation for his adopted hometown; so with his full visa being approved and him not really getting the chance to express himself here this year we decided now is the time. This will be Harvey's only exclusive gig in L.A for 2013. He's been in the studio making edits especially, and will be taking all kinds of musical toys into Sound's booth for the evening." With Sound night club as the location and system that has been tweaked to perfection with dancers styled by club impresario and VIP door girl Phyllis Navidad from the infamous A Club Called Rhonda. Be prepared to be impressed.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19

Risky Vision, a new Thursday night party explores the similarities of indie and electronic music through the unifying sound of disco. For those venue junkies looking to tap into the underground scene and the warehouse fiends thirsting for something live, Risky Vision presented by Downtown Lobby, Cream and FruitFlyLife will satisfy that Thursday night dancing itch.

The One Eyed Gypsy is just as off the wall as it's name. Candlelit shrine vibes and vintage skee ball make this place a voodoo gem. The description on the venues web site had only this mystic and boozy fortune
"Cross her palm with silver and she will entertain and delight, while pouring stiff drinks, and satisfying your every craving" Trippy.

DISCO DIVE @ THE STANDARD. DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

EDM Culture: Los Angeles This Week With DJ Harvey, Tornado Wallace, Golden Touch, Jimmy Edgar, Kauf And More

Ahoy mateys!!

Sadly pool party season is reaching its tail end (but really people, it's always pool party season here so don't bitch) and DISCO DIVE has become a roof top pool party institution amongst disco & house lovin' Angelenos and worldly visitors over the past 3 years. The season finale welcomes... MR.TORNADO WALLACE!
Melbourne producer Lewie Day, AKA Tornado Wallace is more then just an Aussie with an impressive set of facial hair and liking for Simpson's references. He uses exotic percussion, Moroder-esque synth lines, tropical drums and the perfect placement of hand claps, guitar riffs and even didgeridoo samples to put you on a psychedelic holiday. Not to be confused with his prior minimal house releases under Lewie Day, his alter ego "Tornado" will want you poolside sippin' on something with a small umbrella in it.

All local DJ favorites, Joshua James, Cooper Saver and Golden Touch might as all well be wearing jerseys cuz they have some serious game.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 22

OVERTHROW PRESENTS DATA BEACH @ THE STANDARD, DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

EDM Culture: Los Angeles This Week With DJ Harvey, Tornado Wallace, Golden Touch, Jimmy Edgar, Kauf And More

The first time I attended a LIL DEATH shindig, the esthetic had me feeling like I had been teleported into a scene from Hackers, or perhaps one of those super model vampire parties that only exist in the movies.  Needless to say, I was hooked ever since. This being said, fear not my fellow mortal because LIL DEATH has something for anyone with an affinity for astounding music and isn't only cyber goth friendly. Pentagrams and blue hair are merely the aperitif for these events. The main course being the soundtrack.

DATA BEACH will be featuring a live performance from sexually synthy L.A based band, GUARDIAN who I had the pleasure of getting down on the dance floor to a few weeks ago at the Sweating Tapes warehouse party. Jimmy Edgar is a Detroit-based electronic music artist who began by playing the drums in experimental bands and by making tape recordings that he used to manipulate and play with production. He is the self-proclaimed poster child of Sound Couture as well as an award winning fashion photographer.

Overthrow events are always armed with an arsenal of heavy hitting resident DJs and a green screen photobooth presented by RONYS PHOTOBOOTH for some seriously spooky selfies for all. With the Standard's epic view of downtown (hence me mentioning it twice in this article!)the night shall be devilishly decadent visually and audibly.
JIMMY EDGARGUARDIAN [live]

RESIDENTS: TAMARA SKY, JOSH LE CASH, CALEB GAUGE,  ALEXIS MINCOLLA,  STEVEN GRIFFIN

Drink specials from 9pm-11pm $4 PBR all night
