Top 10 Weekly Electronic, Future Funk, Breakbeat, Neo World, Reggae, Latin & Leftfield Bangers - EDM News

Happy 2014 party people! I just returned from a slamming week in Colorado. We celebrated New Years Eve in Durango with a sold out Fort Knox Five 4 Turntable show at the new Animas City Theater. It was absolutely epic ringing in 2014 with our Durango family. We followed New Years with a pair of sold out shows at the legendary Fly Me To The Moon Saloon in Telluride. Telluride was amazing. I spent a day skiing on the mountain thanks to Pepper at Telluride Mountain Resort.

After a nice day on the slopes I was able to visit my good friends at Alpine Wellness for a sampling of the finest legal recreational Marijuana that Colorado has to offer. It was an amazing feeling to walk into a store, and purchase recreational marijauana. Alpine Wellness is also known for their Ganjalas, which is a small edible dose of marijuana in the form of different flavored taffy. Huge shouts to all of our Durango and Telluride families! That was so fun!

Now for some music!

Here are my picks for 10 songs to start off 2014 on the right track .

1. STARLIGHT ORCHEST "SOUL BOSSA NOVA" (FLAVOURS REMIX)
This remix is so sick! I have heard it dropped twice on my last tour. I was always scrambling trying to trainspot it. I finally found it on soundcloud, and it has a free download. Flavours is another Canadian to keep an eye out for. Go get this track. It will rock the party, and make everyone in the place smile!

2. WILDLIGHT "TWIRL ME" (PUMPKIN REMIX), JUMPSUIT RECORDS
Wildlight is a new collaboration between vocalist Ayla Nereo and The Polish Ambassador. The original song Twirl Me was sent to me by a friend from Durango, Colorado. I thought it was a beautiful song, but could use a little push for the dance floor. That is where my buddy Pumpkin comes in. His remix adds the little bit it needed for the floor, but also keeps it musical. The vocal is beautiful.

3. POMPEYA "SLAVER" (PSYCHEMAGIK REMIX), NO SHAME RECORDS
Danny and Tom from Psychemagik can do no wrong. Everything they touch is gold. Their production is absolutely top notch, and they are awesome guys! This remix for Pompeya is excellent. Definitely more on the downtempo tip, but heavy beats. We just did two dates in Australia with Psychemagik, not only are they great producers, but also very versatile djs.

4. MAX RUBADUB f. DI GIOVANAH " COULDN'T BELIEVE"  (JSTAR REMIX), GIDEON PRODUCTION
The King of the Dubplate, Jstar is back with this sick remix of Couldn't Believe by Max Rubadub featuring Di Giovanah. This is how modern reggae dancehall should sound. Jstar's mixes are always friendly for skilled djs, always sound phat with heavy drums. I could easily rock 4 or 5 of his jams in a reggae set.

5. CMC & SILENTA "SUPERSONIC" feat PENNY
I am a huge fan of CMC & Silenta. They are a couple of guys from Germany who make extra funky tunes. This is a bit of a mega mash featuring Traffic and Santana alongside Penny from West Africa. This song will definitely slay the dance floor. Hit their soundcloud, and check out all the other funk they have.

6. NEIGHBOUR & THINKTANK "PEAKS"
Neighbour and Thinktank are a Western Canadian powerhouse. Neighbour on production, and Thinktank on vocals. Some of my favorite tunes over the past couple of years have involved these two. This song is awesome. The beats, bass, and synths are thick. The vocal is space age hip hop! I can't wait to drop this at my next gig!

7. MARTEN HORGER feat FUNKANOMICS "OH GIRL" (LEWD BEHAVIOR REMIX), PUNKS MUSIC
My German friends Marten Horger and Funkanomics just released a huge banger on the Stanton Warriors Punks Music Label called Oh Girl. The Lewd Behavior remix is ridiculous. It features crazy trap snares, and banging mid tempo beats. I need a lot more tunes like this. It slays the club.

8. FEATURECAST "GOING GOING GONE" feat C. REID
Lee Mintram aka Featurecast is one the top producers on the Future Funk scene. He manages to incorporate classic funk elements and modern bass seamlessly. There is a fine line, and he hits it perfectly. This is a great funky electronic hip hop tune featuring vocals by C. Reid. This tune is dropping January 20th on Jalapeño Records.

9. KITTEN & THE HIP " SHUT UP AND DANCE" 3STAR DELUXE
Kitten Quinn and The Hip aka Ashley Slater make up the electronic duo Kitten & The Hip. Their tunes are so happy and fun. Shut Up & Dance is the epitome of a modern swing anthem. Full of funky horns, and live instrumentation. A surefire feel good jam.

10. PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS "STEP BACC" (LEYGO REFIX)
Here is something for the hip hop heads. British Producer/DJ/Turntablist Leygo took some classic People Under The Stairs and flipped it into a super chill hip hop funker. This is a really great rework. The only way you can really touch P.U.T.S. is if you do it justice. Justice was served!
