Get into it...
THURSDAY FEBRUARY 20
THE BYSTANDERS & GEM1N1SEVEN/RIS LABS
PATTERN BAR. LOS ANGELES.
Pattern bar owned by infamous Eduardo Castillo is getting a mention back to back this week because it’s quite apparent Pattern knows how to book the best in local and international talent.
RIS Labs is an innovative collaboration as a music label, a design house and a producer of well crafted events. SF transplant and one of the main forces behind RIS Labs as well as member of THE BYSTANDERS, Eric Sharp had this to say about tonight;
Thursday is a night of firsts...my first RIS Labs label party in LA and my first performance with Sean Patrick as The Bystanders alongside GEM1N1SEVEN, one of our new signees. We'll be showcasing the new direction the label is taking - sophisticated house tunes that move a dance floor. When I got to LA I took a break from building the label to focus on solo production and got signed to Win Music. Since then we've built a stellar team for RIS and will release some great tunes starting this spring. This party is a seed that we will nurture and grow into a forest.”
(aka Sean Patrick & Eric Sharp)
(aka James Outlaw & Paris Potter)
THE BYSTANDERS was conceived in 2003 by seasoned deejay and producer, Sean Patrick and in 2013 gained the added talent of Eric Sharp. These veteran talents are also two of the owners of the sophisticated dance music label RIS Labs.
Having spun alongside everyone from Massive Attack, The Orb & The Chemical Brothers to Hot Chip, Cut Copy, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem & Holy Ghost to Carl Craig, Matthew Dear, M.A.N.D.Y., Soulclap, Richie Hawtin, Wolf + Lamb, Damian Lazarus, Tiefschwarz & Art Department... they understand the lay of the land.
GEM1N1SEVEN is the new brain child of longtime friends James Outlaw and Paris Potter. Both gentlemen are seasoned deejays in the Los Angeles underground scene. Their deejays sets and music production show a longtime love for true deep house with a nod to R&B woven in accents. They've already had the honor of spinning with the likes of Harvey, Nancy Wang, Tomas Barfod, Dam Funk, James Freidman, Mighty Mouse & Turbotito of Poolside.

Juan Nunez is a remarkably talented DJ whose long career is propelled by his enduring passion for dance music. His unique gift, honed by impeccable tastes and two decades of experience, is rooted in a perpetual ability to surprise. Juan's uncanny ability to blend obscure yet timeless classics with unknown but hot new records is a characteristic of his style. A tremendously respected DJ in L.A. and the on West Coast in general, Juan's career has taken him from his home to Hawaii, to the Philippines, to Chile and to many points around the globe. Thousands of dancers and nightclub enthusiasts worldwide will attest to his artistry on the turntables. His style is immediately recognizable though difficult to pigeonhole. He brings to the decks a deep knowledge of various genres and mixes it with scholarly technique and masterful programming. Among Juan's gifts (and there are many), perhaps the most important is his ability to read a crowd--to peg group ethos, that slipperiest, ghostliest quality, and to play the right song at the right time. It's a gift bestowed on few DJ's, but Juan nails it every time. And as if that weren't enough, he's fun-to-be-around, a cool guy to boot.
Peep one of his mixes right here;
Zernell Gillie's style can range from the heart of disco to the soul of Chicago house music with a grimy twist. By taking rare disco classics and stripping them down and rebuilding them to a beating perfection it's no wonder why his imprint Grimy, has sold thousands of copies worldwide. Zernell has done numerous parties including Chicago, Detroit, New York, Miami and LA. He has toured the U.K. and Europe and headlined parties in London, Amsterdam & Berlin.
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 22
DANIEL BORTZ, KEDD COOK & MORE/MINIMAL EFFORT
TBD. LOS ANGELES
Perhaps you were sadly MIA for the first one ….
Dont make the same mistake twice !
Bringing the addictive waves of electronic music, the following warehouse event series hosts a destination for underground music lovers. MINIMAL EFFORT bends and shapes to suit genres held dear to all house music connoisseurs. Held every month in an industrial private setting, Minimal Effort will be hosting talent from around the globe.
DANIEL BORTZ(SUOL, BERLIN) - EXTENDED SET!
Hailing from berlin very own SUOL label, DANIEL BORTZ is no friend of excess. Anyone familiar with his previous work is aware of the clear contours that permeate and define his tracks. Overkill, in any case, is not in his repertoire. What Daniel Bortz does instead is pack compatible sounds together from all the drawers in the beat cabinet and arrange them into a system bearing his own inimitable signature. That in itself is already exciting. Bortz is unmatched in how he crafts his sounds, how he modulates reverb depths, how he opens spaces and inserts details between the tracks with the precision of a Swiss watchmaker. His nonchalance in turning apparently cool vibes into a fiery inferno is the definition of informed understatement. Patchwork Memories' becomes tangible as an experience through the depth of these moods, through the immediacy he applies in portraying his memories.
