House Music Legends Moby & Pete Tong On The Decks At Sound Nightclub

Sound Nightclub in Hollywood has quickly established itself as the premiere destination for house music on Friday nights. The evening has seen some of the best DJs in the scene, and now, with Pete Tong holding down a monthly residency at the venue, it has only become better.

For the third All Gone Pete Tong event at Sound,  none other than Moby was featured as the guest DJ. This was pretty special considering the fact that Moby doesn't play out much anymore. And generally speaking,  it's pretty rare that you can catch two dance music legends like Pete Tong & Moby sharing the bill on one night at an intimate club.

Since the EDM culture explosion, it seems as if electronic music DJs went either opt for a more mainstream, commercial sound or a more underground vibe in their sets.   This night seemed to be no exception, as Moby and Pete Tong took the crowd in two separate directions.

Moby, one of my electronic music hero from the 90s started his set with some good electro-tinged tech house. He then took a surprising turn, as he closed his set with some fairly aggressive electro.

Pete Tong, on the other hand, took over right after Moby and banged out the tech house tunes for the rest of the night including Patrick Topping's "Stop" off of his Get Beasty EP on Hot Creations.

Their respective sets seemed to be reflective of the current state of EDM- an exciting, although sometimes confusing crossover of more underground sounds into the mainstream and vice versa.  None the less, it was still quite the the experience to witness both these legends take the decks on one night, in one city, and just one nightclub.

Up next at Sound for Pete Tong's residency will be Solomun for a special "Coachella Week" Wednesday night on April 16th. Make sure you get your tickets before they are "all gone".   You can purchase them via Wantickets.
