Top Electro/Progressive House Chart April 30th 2014

This week in new electronic music, the real story that stands out is the re-emergence of the individual former members of Swedish House Mafia with their own separate tracks. Axwell and Steve Angello both return to the scene with fresh, uplifting progressive tunes. Familiar names Dyro, Henrix and Sick Individuals fill out the harder electro side of the chart this week.

1. "Vega" Promise Land, Doorn Records

An enchanting violin synth loops throughout the buildup, giving way to an electrified bassline. Out May 5th.

2. "Delorean" Simon De Jano & Bottai, Sosumi Records

Named after the "Back To The Future" ride, this track brings a new punch to Kryder's young label Sosumi. Epic orchestral buildup followed by a grinding drop. Available as a free download below via the SoundCloud stream.

3. "Ping Pong" (Kryder & Tom Staar Remix) Armin van Buuren

I like the recent trend of electro DJs remixing trance tracks. In this latest instance, Kryder & Tom Staar further their productive working relationship with a compelling, drum-driven remix. Remix package out soon.

4. "Sounds Like" Dyro, Revealed Recordings

No one can slow down the Revealed Recordings pipeline. Dyro's back with a track that experiments with a buildup with harder, more defined beats than the average track. The drop features some edgy electro riffs and enveloping bass. Out May 5th.

5. "Payback" Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman and Steve Angello, Size Records

Here's another track by a former Swedish House Mafioso that made it onto this week's Top 10. An uplifting progressive tune whose melodic notes remind me a bit of some of the euro dance tracks I used to listen to on long jogs. Out now.

6. "Tokyo By Night" (Axwell Remix) Hook N Sling feat. Karin Park, Axtone

Axwell is back using his signature style to masterfully craft an uplifting progressive remix of the Hook N Sling original. The original track's vocals beautifully meld with the buildup into Axwell's trademark high-pitched synths. Out now.

7. "Rock & Rave" Sick Individuals, Ultra Records

Sick Individuals continue to tear down the house with banging electro tunes. The melody on this one is fast-paced and the background melody creates a nice echo-like effect. Out now.

8. "Shake Your Money Maker" Henrix, Mixmash/OTW Records

The way the melody repeats throughout almost the entire track is hypnotizing. I like the extremely distorted, chopped up vocal before the drop. Out May 1st.

9. "Forever" The Trixx, feat. Nuthin' Under a Million, Mixmash/OTW Records

Ones To Watch Records continues to roll out the freshest talent on the scene. The Trixx hits the scene with a vocal, yet grinding electro track. Out now.

10. "Check This Out" Ollie Jones, Mixmash/OTW Records

Up-and-comer Ollie Jones brings us this fresh track with a glitchy, shifty melodic buildup. The drop unleashes a dominant bass synth with an intricate rhythmic, higher-pitched synth on top. Out now.
