Busy P bio

French electro DJ/producer Pedro Winter (aka Busy P) is the owner of Ed Banger Records as well as the manager of Daft Punk and a few other electronic dance acts from France. He became interested in electronic dance music around 1992 and soon after began spinning at clubs and planning parties. Increasingly involved with the underground electronic dance music community in his hometown of Paris, Winter became acquainted with many of the scene's key participants, including David Guetta, DJ Cam, Dimitri from Paris, and Daft Punk. The latter he met in 1996, when he was a law student. The soon-to-be-famous duo asked him to be their manager and he accepted. In the wake of Daft Punk's world-wide success, Winter founded the management company Headbangers Entertainment in 2002 and assumed management duties for other French electronic dance acts. In 2003 he founded Ed Banger Records, which released music by up-and-coming French electro artists such as Justice, Mr. Flash, Vicarious Bliss, Krazy Baldhead, SebastiAn, Uffie, DJ Mehdi, and others. Shortly after founding Ed Banger Records, Winter began producing tracks of his own under the Busy P moniker, beginning in 2004 with the Limit Ed 12" single featuring the tracks "Colette C'est Chouette" and "Bearbrickdance," and began employing his remixing ability as well. However, his production work was sporadic, not releasing another Busy P 12" on Ed Banger until Rainbow Man in 2007. The originality of Ed Banger’s image is one of the major factors behind its success; this originality is contingent upon its balance of artistically driven music and musically driven art. Winter enlisted So Me as Ed Banger’s artistic director, and like Justice’s grinding synth lines and striking hi-hat stabs, So Me’s work has become one of the label’s instantly recognizable hallmarks. His vision for the cover of Busy P’s “Rainbow Man” E.P. was inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Vitruvian Man.” We give a tip of the hat to Busy P, a renaissance man in his own right. “Of course Chicago is the hometown of our love for electronic music,” Winter continued, elaborating on some other influences of his, “Kenny Dope from NYC is [a favorite]. Also I have lots of respect for genius hip-hop heads like DJ Premier, Timbaland and the Neptunes.” Winter credited Mike D, MCA and Ad Rock as early influences. Perhaps that’s where Busy P gets some of his light-hearted energy. “As a DJ I want to party as much as the kids on the dancefloor.” This DJ/producer whose roots go back to the ‘90s has earned his place among the ranks of Daft Punk and Kenny Dope.
