It is that time of year again.. The time when Miami's Art District truly comes alive, when all eyes and ears are focused on one thing and one thing only: art. This is a celebration of creativity and ingenuity unlike any other in the Western Hemisphere, where appreciation revolves around the aesthetic and name-brands are stripped of their power.
The main Art Basel events are December 3-6, but the anticipation of it has the city adopting the festival's mentality weeks prior. There will be no Martin Garrix type shows in Miami for a few weeks.
For me, everything kicks off tonight as I will be splitting my time between Skream's open to close set at Treehouse and the debut of Do Not Sit On The Furniture's new monthly, Play/House. By tomorrow, I will surely have burnt enough calories to enjoy the tryptophan coma I intend on putting myself in, guilt-free!
On Friday, I will be able to ease myself into the night with some craft beers and hor doeuvre's at the pop-up beer garden, Smashed Canvas. As I give my feet a rest and let my taste-buds dance for a while, I will relax and enjoy watching the many talented muralists convert the block between NW 2nd & 3rd avenue and 28th & 29th street into a giant art piece of its own. Once the day turns to night, I will make my way over to Humans Alike's new home-base at Heart Nightclub to get down to some of Pirupa's killer beats.
My Saturday night is all about Bardot. Bedside's album release party will be Miami's first opportunity to get a sneak peak of their debut EP which is slated to drop the following week. If the rest of it is even half as good as the single, "One Night With You" they put out last week, then it will surely be a hell of a night.
I'm going to take it easy on Sunday and Monday so I can be in full form for Tuesday's super exclusive soirée featuring sounds by Wooden Wisdom (Elijah Wood & Zach Cowie) and art by Allen Jones. I'm not even sure if I am allowed to tell you where it is, but I will tell you that it's going to be fun.
I will be spending Wednesday wandering through Wynwood to see what mischief I can get myself into and which art galleries are doing what. Thursday & Friday I will be at the iii Points events which were posted yesterday, as well as heading over to Heart once again, this time for tINI.
Loco Dice makes his triumphant return to Space on Saturday. This is my can't-miss-party of the festival, if you're going to only go out once during Art Basel (which I cannot even begin to fathom why you would limit yourself like that) then this is where you should go. Be sure to check back on Monday for my exclusive interview with the man himself!
I can't think of a better place to wrap everything up than Do Not Sit On The Furniture. NU will be headlining their Art Basel closing party, which is more than enough to get me over there; but after all of the shenanigans I just told you about, I might have to actually sit for a little bit.
Check back after December 6th to get my re-cap of the madness and enjoy some select visual memories.
