It is being reported that President Barack Obama will skip the funeral for former first lady Nancy Reagan in order to attend South by Southwest, according to The Washington Post.

President Obama is due to give a speech at SXSW Interactive on Friday, March 11th. This is also the same day as Reagan's funeral in Simi Valley, California.

Representing President Obama at the funeral will be first lady Michelle Obama and former secretary of state, and Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.

"Nancy Reagan once wrote that nothing could prepare you for living in the White House," reads a joint statement from the Obamas. "She was right, of course. But we had a head start, because we were fortunate to benefit from her proud example, and her warm and generous advice."

During SXSW's music festival later in the month, Michelle Obama is also due to make a keynote speech, on March 16th. This will also mark the first time an active president and first lady will both be attending SXSW.
