Artists are always met with hate and misunderstanding whenever they change their musical style after producing one sound for so long. This always begs the question, is the artist genuinely evolving and has their influence changed, or are they following trends and hopping on the bandwagon of popular trends.
It's a double-edged sword. You can think of it either way, and there's no true way of knowing. With that being said, sometimes it can be very obvious, like Tiesto following trends throughout his career, but still finds ways to make quality music for those who are drawn to the style he shares. So now it appears to be Afrojack's turn.
Yesterday Afrojack released his remix of the infamous hit 'Panda' by Desiigner and it's a hybrid trap banger!
It's a hard hitting remix with bass that booms deep and low so hard you can feel it in your bones. The break brings in some nice super saws and vocal chops reminiscent of old school Afrojack that builds into a massive second drop. The mixing and execution is great, bringing a massive hip-hop track into the realm of EDM, particularly trap.
This new side of Afrojack might take a while to get used to, but if he keeps up with his production skills we can be sure that it will be noteworthy. Either way, as an artist Afrojack has consistently mixed up his style, such as 'Summerthing' and 'Ten Feet Tall' being extremely pop-focused and different than his older / harder hitting music. We can expect this remix to be featured at festival stages all over the world this summer, and we will be watching closely to see where he takes things next.
