The Southern California festival market gets another entrant in downtown LA as Minimal Effort announces its expansion this year into a full-scale, 5,000-capacity outdoor festival this Halloween and New Year's Eve. Over the past year, Minimal Effort has seen a wild uptick in growth that has given it the need to ramp up the ante this year.
Minimal Effort 2016 will feature 2 stages atop the iconic perch of LA Center Studios, where Mad Decent hosts the Los Angeles incarnation of its annual Block Party. Line-ups for these 2016 events have yet to be announced, but their past events have brought some of the fantastic acts including Agoria, Jimmy Edgar, Danny Daze, Fur Coat, Rodriguez Jr (Live) J.Phlip, andhim, Marques Wyatt, Miss Kittin, Hunter/Game, Blond:ish, Adana Twins, Finnebassen, Anja Schneider and many more.
Surely this is a sign of the underground's rebirth, one of the current foremost developments in dance music. Even the industry's more mainstream promoters like Insomniac are trying to tap into the underground with events like Factory 93. Minimal Effort's Halloween lineup is expected June 7: stay tuned to Magnetic for the latest.
