One of the most momentous collaborations of the year is already under way. Daft Punk have remained silent since 2013's Random Access Memories, but it's been revealed that they're working on an album with none other than The Weeknd.
Last month, Billboard put out a video segment called Hitmakers Roundtable in which a handful of prominent figures in the recording industry discussed a series of topics. When asked, "If you could work with any artist or songwriter, who would it be?" EVP Republic Records A&R Wendy Goldstein gave the following answer:
Well, actually, we have a session that Ron [Perry, cofounder of SONGS Music Publishing] set up with The Weeknd and Daft Punk. I've always been a massive Daft Punk fan, so this is the first time I've actually been involved with an artist who's gonna go work with them.
A week ago, The Weeknd himself alluded to the collaboration when he uploaded the following image to his Facebook page:
As of this writing, neither Daft Punk nor The Weeknd have announced or release date for whatever it is they're working on. Chicago house legend Paul Johnson let it slip that the former act was woking on a house music album well over a year ago, however, so it's likely that their collaboration with The Weeknd is but one of many singles from the duo that's on the horizon.
