Pete Tong of BBC Radio 1

Crowd-curated internet radio platform 8tracks recently launched the world’s first crowdfunding campaign to create a music company actually owned by the people who use it.

To celebrate the milestone, renowned DJ Pete Tong crafted an exclusive playlist with the 8tracks team. As you'd expect, the playlist hones in on only the finest minimal/tech house vibes staying true to Pete Tong's most recognizable sound.

If you're unfamiliar with 8tracks, their site offers customizable playlists designed to sync up with listeners' moods at the right time and place.

Unlike on-demand (Spotify), algorithm-based (Pandora), or editorial platforms (Apple), 8tracks’ crowd-curated approach allows the community to create and promote playlists that listeners discover and share – think online mixtapes. DJs share a moment in time — an experience, an idea, a feeling — in the form of a highly personal playlist to which others can often relate. With over 2 million playlists and two thirds of streaming coming from independent musicians, 8tracks enables true music discovery for its avid audience of 5 million listeners each month.

Launched in 2008, 8tracks is the third-largest pure play internet radio service among U.S. millennials, with investors including Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, DJs Pete Tong and Steve Aoki, Atlantic Records’ Chairman Craig Kallman, and Shazam co-founder Philip Inghelbrecht.
