Lupe Fiasco… What Will The Hip-Hop Critics Say?

Lupe Fiasco is developing some musical inspiration from the EDM world as of late, especially with the recent release of his Friend of the People mixtape on Thanksgiving day. The mixtape features tracks from Nero, The Glitch Mob, Kaskade, Skrillex, M83, Justice and Bassnectar. It’s remarkable the impact electronic music made in 2011…hip-hop artists like Lupe Fiasco would rather use the sounds of dubstep and house artists to musically entertain fans. I’m not confident that his fan base will be receptive to his new direction but this opens the door for new fans. I’m already feeling hip-hop critics will consider Lupe Fiasco a sell out. The tracks I find appealing on the mixtape: “Supercold” featuring The Glitch Mob and “Lightwork” featuring Bassnector and Ellie Goulding.

Here’s a pet peeve I have with other artists using the samples of electronic artist, i.e. Rihanna and Lupe Fiasco. It should be “We Found Love” featuring Rihanna and “Lightwork” featuring Lupe Fiasco considering the fact it’s their creation with your voice over the track. Let’s be honest without that beat, could you find the inspiration to write lyrics? Just saying.
