It’s been a while since yours truly has turned you on to a great festival and for that I’m sorry. Let me make it up to you with this wonderland experience: Snowglobe New Years Eve Festival in South Lake Tahoe, California on December 29th, 30th and 31st. This festival has the marquee headliners you’d expect from a New Year's Eve extravaganza to keep you dancing sell occupied: Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Thievery Corp, Big Gigantic, Dillon Francis, The Glitch Mob and Emancipator. Of course, those are not the only artists performing (I may be guilty of playing favorites), check out the website if you want to see the entire list.
And if you’re looking for a festival that isn’t just about the music, this is it. It’s Lake Tahoe, one of the most scenic of all destinations… there’s a myriad of other things to do too among the thousands of acres of fresh snow and deep powder.
If I were going (pissed that I’ll be in Philly) I would be looking forward to Big Gigantic’s set, they are set to release their highly anticipated album sometime in early 2012 and this would be a great event to showcase the new tracks. If you’re looking for something a little more laid back check out Emancipator, a super chill DJ that has worldly beats that make most jealous. Emancipator’s album Soon it Will Be Cold Enough is a great album to have in the car ride up, it’s a great winter album. Of course, Pretty Lights has been tearing his shows up, he’s a must see. I don’t need to say much of Bassnectar and Glitch Mob.
If you’re anywhere near Tahoe or you’re celebrating Christmas in the Rockies, leave your family behind for 3 days and tell them you’re going to go find yourself in mother nature or just tell them your going to dance your ass off. This will be the festival of all festivals to close out a great 2011 festival year.
