The filthy feather crew are at it again driving dancefloors crazy with Hatched Vol. 2, continuing the series that has already brought some serious heat. Louisahhh!!! summed it up perfectly on her review of Vol. 1 when she said, “though an impressively full jackin’, tough but tender, ‘Let’s not take ourselves too seriously’ sound is pervasive throughout.” Vol. 2 takes the energy and movement of the first EP and keeps it on, making it worth another trek down to your local record store (or your laptop).
Kill Frenzy starts it off firm, yet bouncy with “Booty Clap,” a real deal prime timer that just brings out the nasty. This track will work from the underground to the mainstream, and even has a tempo drop at about the three-minute mark that would make a solid transition tool if you need to slow it down to hip-hop or dubstep. Dirtybird’s man in charge Worthy comes in next with “Shy Look,” which has a cool retro ‘80s feel mixed with bass heavy house, almost forcing you to move.
Side two starts with“ Waiting,” a deep house slash breakbeat hybrid with really low lows, chopped vocals, and maybe even some ducks (no joke). This track is raw and pure Dirtybird with Christian Martin driving it all the way. The EP breaks free of its shell with a Breach remix of DJ Cra$y’s “That Amen Track” which is pure ‘90s house bliss here, right up until the drums come in and then its off to jungle heaven.
Hatched Vol. 2 is released today January 25th, 2012 via Beatport and February 8 everywhere else.
