Swanky Tunes Lead The Russian House Invasion — Take Over Playhouse Hollywood

Dmitry Burykin, Vadim Shpak and Stanislav Zaytsev are the trio that compromise Russian progressive house mega-group Swanky Tunes. It is undeniable that with all the new house sounds coming out of the East, Swanky Tunes are leading the pack. Accompanied by the likes of Arty, Hard Rock Sofa and Matisse & Sadko, these Russian producers have been recently seen their music go full circle around the globe, using the world's best DJs as their vehicle to do so. With support from the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Tïesto, David Guetta and Laidback Luke to name a few, Swanky Tunes boast a superstar lineup of endorsers who support their tracks, playing them to crowds upwards of 10,000 at gigs and festivals from Europe to the US to South America.

Swanky Tunes just embarked on their biggest North American Tour to date, playing nine shows including Los Angeles, Chicago, NYC and Las Vegas. We were lucky enough to catch up with them on their second stop of the tour, their Los Angeles gig on February 10 at Playhouse in Hollywood…they say where stars are born. With opening support from long-term friend and versatile DJ/Producer S.CO the night started out hot, a perfect precursor for what was to come from Swanky Tunes' much anticipated debut set at Playhouse.

It is safe to say that Swanky Tunes blew the roof off of Playhouse with their big-room sound, playing with ammo from their own arsenal along with that of others, mixing together to create the affect of "Maximal Crazy". Two of three of the boys from Swanky Tunes were touring representing the trio live, while the other stayed home tending to production. Trust us when we say that didn't really matter; opening with an energy-filled track that resembled a Russian ballad, which we presume to be a new unreleased single from the boys, this energy was a constant through the night. Club-goers grew excited as Swanky Tunes took over the decks, taking their cameras out, paying full attention to center stage. Some of the past and present year's biggest tracks were played to a packed house.

Here's a sampling of Swanky Tunes' set list @ Playhouse (2/10/12):

Swanky Tunes "Unreleased/Track ID"
Diddy-Dirty Money feat. Skylar Grey "Coming Home" (Unknown remix)
Swanky Tunes, Hard Rock Sofa & R3hab "Sending My Love" (Afrojack Edit)
Swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party "Antidote"
David Guetta feat. Sia "Titanium"
Swanky Tunes, Matisse & Sadko "The Legend"
Nicky Romero "Toulouse"
Justice vs. Simian Vs. Coldplay "We Are You Friends" vs. "Clocks"  (Unknown remix)
Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay "In My Mind" (Axwell Remix)

Things got a little crazy to say that the least. The turning point may have been when Elmo and Cookie Monster came out equipped with CO2 tanks, spraying a haze of euphoric fog over the crowd while they stood on the bar in front of the stage. It was a treat to watch Swanky Tunes play their originals and to be there at their first show in LA. Swanky Tunes, Hard Rock Sofa & R3hab "Sending My Love" (Afrojack Edit) out on Afrojack's Wall Recordings hit especially hard turning the crowd into a frenzy of jumping bobbleheads, as did "The Legend" their latest single with Matisse & Sadko released on Sebastian Ingrosso's imprint Refune Records that has beautiful production value and a chilling effect. "Antidote", "Titanium" and "In My Mind" were some crowd favorites, but the bass-heavy remix they played of Justice vs. Simian "We Are Your Friends" mixed with Coldplay "Clocks" was absolutely massive! It was a great first experience seeing Swanky Tunes to say the least. Thanks to Kronos Management for making it happen!

It is not just overnight that Swanky Tunes gained this success. When the group formed over a decade ago in 1998, they were experimenting with different styles trying to find their sound. From techno mixed with vintage synthesizers to their more big-beat influenced sound we hear today, Swanky Tunes' sound is comprised of hints of techno, electro-80s and contemporary progressive house. They were named Best Musical Group in 2006 and 2007 at the Russian Dance Music Awards.

Swanky Tunes have had a big last year, just about the biggest a group could have in the international dance music scene. Coming off of "The Legend" finding its way into the Beatport Top 30 overall chart and a massive New Years Eve gig at Pier 94 in New York City supporting Avicii alongside Cazzette and Arty, the boys have seen a great start to 2012. 2011 was witness to Swanky Tunes remix with R3hab of Tïesto's "Maximal Crazy" and what can be seen as one of the anthems of year in "Sending My Love," another collaboration with R3hab. The two obviously have a special chemistry in the studio. "Sending My Love" received one of the year's major remix packages with remixes from Afrojack, Cazzette and Kaskade. Goodluck "Hop On Hop Off" (Swanky Tunes Remix) also was one of our favorites.

However, what feels like ages ago was just a calendar year ago when we found out about Swanky Tunes. What a jam packed year it has been for them since…Swanky Tunes, Mr. V.I. "Together" released on Laidback Luke's Mix Mash label, not to mention some killer cover art, and vocals,  was unquestionably one of the anthems of last year's Winter Music Conference in Miami, launching the guys into the EDM spotlight worldwide. With early support from Swedish House Mafia, along with their track "Thank You" with management mate Hard Rock Sofa, Swanky Tunes was on a roll that has only kept rolling. Keep 'em coming!

We'll be there for the action and are excited to catch up with them at WMC!
Вива ла Swanky Tunes!
