Readers, it’s my pleasure to introduce a good friend of mine, moombahton extraordinaire ETC!ETC!. Moombahton, the mid tempo-ed love child of Dutch house and reggaeton saw an explosive rise in 2011 and shows no signs of slowing down. Many refuse to take Moombahton seriously, trashing the genre for its “bedroom producer” stigma and “108-edit” culture. ETC!ETC couldn’t be farther from this stereotype, churning out banger after banger and garnering support from the genre’s biggest tastemakers.
ETC!ETC! was recently featured on BroSafari’s "Bro’s Gone Wild" EP which hit #1 on the Beatport Indie Dance Charts, and was one of the first non-Dillon Francis Moombahton releases that’s gained popular acclaim. The track he was featured on “The Clap”—my personal favorite—is a great example of how great moombahton can be. I’m truly proud to call ETC!ETC! a close friend of mine, it’s great to see his success.
The Moombahtonista was kind enough to do an interview and even made a little mini-mix for Magnetic! I’ll let ETC!ETC! do the talking from here, be sure to check out his mix (it’s chock full of exclusives!) and if you’re in Miami this week try and catch one of his sets!

I’d say WMC is a good indicator of what’s hot in the EDM scene, and there are tons of Moombahton events this year!
Let’s start off with an icebreaker. What’s your favorite taco spot in LA and what do you order?
Papas and Tacos on Laurel Canyon in the Valley. I get Jalapeno Poppers and Crispito Taco’s with extra cheese. I know that’s a recipe for a heart attack, but a man’s gotta eat!
A club promoter hands you a fistful of drink tickets, what do you get for your first round?
I’m a family man now so I’m not too much of a drinker, but I recently fell in love with Hefeweizens! I think Pyramid might be my favorite, I’m definitely about to drink a case worth of those in Miami this week.
You recently had a bit of a hit with your collab with BroSafari. I gotta ask, which one of you found that "Make That Ass Clap" sample?
Thanks man, I’m super proud of that tune! Bro found the sample actually, it was so perfect and fitting for our collaboration.
What would you say are the three greatest influences to the music you make?
Wow man, that’s a hard question! My two biggest influences are my wife and daughter, I keep doin’ what I’m doin’ to make them proud. I don’t want to be the do-nothing husband/dad that’s been working the same dead end job since he was 18 you know? I do this for them.
I’d say my third biggest influence is all the music I listen to! Music is my life, it’s in my blood and hearing all the great things going on in EDM inspires me to make more.
What music do you listen to when you're not listening to Electronic Dance Music?
Ha, you’ll never guess! I used to be a punk rock/indie kid my favorite band of all time is At The Drive In (The Mars Volta’s proto-band). I even have a tattoo! I was so stoked when they announced they’re getting back together. Other than that, I listen to all this Spanish stuff my Mom used to listen to when I was growing up, it’s great for finding new Moombah samples.
I know everyone must ask you this, but I'm genuinely curious… Where do you think Moombahton is going? Is it here to stay?
Moombahton is here to stay, there’s no doubt in my mind that 2012 will be a big year for the genre. We have big players in the game producing amazing tracks... I’d say WMC is a good indicator of what’s hot in the EDM scene, and there are tons of Moombahton events this year!
Speaking of WMC, are you excited for all your bookings this year?
Words can’t begin to say how excited I am! I have so many shows lined up it’s crazy, I’m getting my first taste of what it’s like to be a “touring DJ!” I don’t know how I’ll make it to all of them, but that’s what managers are for ;-)
What's on the horizon for ETC!ETC!, any releases we should be looking out for?
Yeah man! I have a release coming soon on Mad Decent’s Jefferies with J-Trick featuring our tracks “Hold Tha Line” and “Lessgo.” I also have a four song EP called "Killafornia" coming out on AC Slater’s Party Like Us, listen close to my mini-mix and you’ll hear a few!
