Australian sibling duo The Stafford Brothers are no strangers to the international dance music scene. That's why have their own TV show on cable in their homeland, the first first of its kind about DJs, and deservedly. Having been on the map for some time now, Stafford brothers have had releases on some of the premier dance labels including new ones coming out on Cr2, Stealth, Flamingo, Discowax/Sony, Ego and Ministry of Sound along with remixes of Roger Sanchez/Sidney Samson, DJ Fresh, Mark Knight/Dirty South and Snoop Dogg/Akon this month. They were asked to rework the theme song for Real Madrid, one of the biggest sporting teams in the world and starred in the clip that was released over to 26 million Facebook fans. They just played Future Music Festival in Australia and were the only Aussie act confirmed, along with finished a string of dates in Miami, Canada, Dominican Republic and San Francisco, making their debut at Ruby Skye.
They recently moved to LA and inked a deal with TAO Group where they will begin residencies in Marquee Las Vegas and Sydney, along with LAVO in New York. Season 3 of their show is even set to filming in the US! Big things are happening for The Stafford Brothers, and happening quick. We got the chance to catch up with them before their headlining show at Playhouse Hollywood (tickets here) tomorrow alongside Rony Seikaly that will kick off Memorial Weekend properly.
Where did the idea spur to have a reality show about your lives as DJs and how did it come together?
We were always filming a lot of our shows and uploading them to youtube with behind the scenes piece. A guy called Wes Dening came to us with the concept of the show, he was an Australian based in NYC. We really liked the idea and just thought lets do it, its been a great experience for us and definitely something different for the screens.
What’s the secret to your success? We will accept any secret if you have not yet found the former—i.e. success.
I wouldn't say there is any great big secret, lots of hard work! There is two of us and we both bring different aspects to our business, having two people working together for the same goal really is a good thing and has helped with our success.
What's your experience with the US thus far? We've received word that season three of the show will be filmed out here.
ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT! The EDM scene here is just exploding and the crowds and venues are just amazing. The USA is a great place, and yes we are putting together the whole third season in the USA.
You guys are starting a huge residency with Marquee Sydney and TAO Group America that will have you playing in premier venues in New York and Las Vegas. Tell us about this.
We are pumped to be able to play for the TAO group and at their venues. We are obviously especially excited for our shows at Marquee in Las vegas. With Marquee opening in Sydney Australia it was the perfect fit for us to play at the venue, our first show is in a couple of weeks.

Now having relocated to Los Angeles, how has this changed your musical world?
We are collaborating with a lot of American artists, this was one of the main goals and reasons why we moved. It's great to able to work with so many talented people, and its definitely changing the way we do things.
Does character invent style or does your style invent character? Or is there a mysterious X factor only you are privy to?
Because we are brothers we have a certain difference or X -factor that not many others have. I also think that our character creates our style. We have a energetic performance which is our natural personalities coming out when we DJ.
What is the most colorful/memorable incident you have involving a fan or fan relations? Change names to protect the innocent, if you care to.
A girl came to one of our gigs with a t-shirt she had printed with the words "I want to F**K a Stafford Brother"...got a photo with her and that's as far as it went
Do you have any pre-gig routines or green room rituals?
we always say "play it like your last". Which basically just means go out and give it everything, our shows are very energetic. A shot of jager is always there too.
What’s on your Rider?
2 bottles of vodka, 1 bottle of Jagermeister, 12 beers, 12 bottles of water, 6 red bulls and 2 white towels.
If you were the biggest musician in the world, what would be on your Rider?
Pretty much just the above, plus add green skittles.
If you could send advice via a fortune cookie to up-and-comers, it would read:
There is no easy road. Work hard.
