Swanky Tunes Continue To Make Some Noise

Russian progressive house trio Swanky Tunes are hot off a huge collaboration with the one and only Tiësto and a massive Winter Music Conference where they gigged non-stop alongside some of the biggest names in the genre playing the coveted Ultra Music Festival and label parties such as Mix Mash and Refune. If that is any indication, the Swanky Tunes movement only continues to grow hotter. Throw in an official remix of Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso "Calling" with R3hab too.

Arguably the most underrated track off of Tiësto's Club Life: Volume Two Miami which is sitting nicely atop the dance charts, Tiësto & Swanky Tunes feat. Ben McInerney of New Navy "Make Some Noise" resonates strongly and was one of the tracks to look out for in Miami this year. With über production, chilling vocals, and the ability to add the Swanky Tunes signature sound to a track with arguably the number #1 DJ in the world, that is an accomplishment in itself. Grab the single on iTunes or Beatport.

I got the chance to catch up with them before things got crazy with WMC so "Make Some Noise" as you watch their video recap from Miami and get a closer look at Swanky Tunes!

Russian man harnesses the horse slowly but drives fast!

Introduce yourselves.

Hello. We are Dimitry, Vadim and Stanislav and we are Swanky Tunes.

What’s the story behind Swanky Tunes? How did you guys all link up?

You know, there is nothing special. We started to produce music and play it live in 1998. There were only two members of Swanky Tunes —Vadim and Stanislav. Later in 2004 Dimitry joined. From 1998 till 2005 some musicians and vocalists were involved, but then they decided to leave Swanky Tunes and to start their own careers.

Can you tell us about your release “The Legend” with Matisse & Sadko?

Yes, of course. To be honest we meet Alex and Jury (Matisse & Sadko) less than a year ago. We were searching for talented Russian producers to make a collaboration. They are really cool guys and good musicians. We had the same points of view on progressive house music and enjoy working together. Think we did a good job! Finally "The Legend" was released on Refune Records by Sebastian Ingrosso and reached good positions on Beatport.

“Sending My Love” has been one of this past year’s most massive big-room sounds. How was working with R3hab and getting such a stellar remix package for this one?

When you have a desire to work on something cool it's always a pleasure! The same with remixes. Good tracks need good remixes; that's why we did our best to find good producers to remix "Sending My Love."

What’s going on with the Russian invasion that’s taking place right now with DJs like you, Arty, Hard Rock Sofa and Matisse & Sadko?

Yes, you're right. Russia has been keeping silent for a long time, but maybe this quote will let everybody know how it can be: "Russian man harnesses the horse slowly but drives fast!"

Can you tell us a little about your sound, and how it has evolved since Swanky Tunes was formed.

Everybody asks this question. Actually we have had a long, long way to reach this sound and we haven't finished yet! Starting from old-style electro and techno music, we moved to big-beat and synthy-pop then put our minds into house music adding all elements we got since 1998.

Favorite track put out up to date?

Hard Rock Sofa & Swanky Tunes "Apogee"

What is it like to get support from guys like Axwell, Seb, Laidback Luke and Tiesto? How have they helped you progress in your career?

Every time we got somebody to help us we really appreciated it. Luke helped us with a singer and lyrics for single "Together." Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello support our tracks in each set. We had few releases on Size and Refune.  Also we've just finished a collaboration with Tiësto, it just means we are on the right way!

Most memorable show to date?

New Year Eve 2012 in NYC with Avicii, Arty, Cazzette and Glenn Morrison.

What are some records that have inspired you to achieve the sound you are currently making?

Daft Punk  "Da Funk,"Chemical Brothers "Hey Boy, Hey Girl" and many, many more!

To spend free time with our families.

What helps get you through those Russian winters!?

Gigs around the world. We were in Russia just a couple of weeks during last winter.

Can you tell us anything about your plans at this year’s WMC?

Take a look at a schedule on our Facebook page. There you'll find parties like Ultra, Ministry Of Sound, Mixmash, Refune, Nikki Beach during WMC. Hope God let us be alive after this! See ya in Miami!
