As fans grow tired of hearing the same hooks, riffs and chords, it’s no surprise that much of the upper echelons of EDM are scrambling to find that new sound and re-invent the wheel, so to speak. Axwell is no stranger to electronic music and that’s why he’s looking to the future for new and undiscovered talent.
EDMBoston recently covered this topic where Axwell is quoted as saying,
I’m introducing what is new and what new producers and completely unknown singers we have. I’m interested in the new Adele, the new Gotye. Who is the next guy? That is really the future. Just meeting big name people for the sake of it is not what I’m looking for.
On that note, party promoter Pasquale Rotella of Insomniac and the famed Electric Daisy Carnival is getting back to his roots when he stated that he isn’t interested in booking “Superstar DJs” anymore. This type of thinking will hopefully put a fresh face and reskin on the EDM scene so fans like us can continue to be challenged, educated, and grow with the scene.
Regardless of how you feel about ever-loved/ever-hated Swedish House Mafia, the breakup of the SHM appears to me as a great opportunity for these 3 guys to get back to their roots of innovation. Musically, It’s undeniable that Axwell, Ingrosso, and Angello were pushing the movement and sound in their respective genres prior to the US EDM explosion. Hopefully other DJs will follow suit in the tradition of pushing the pace in the world of electronic music!
Who are some of the tastemakers that you feel are challenging and making a difference in today’s DJ scene?
