It was only a matter of time before EDM’s anointed one made the move to film soundtracks. Personally I would have guessed the next Michael Bay film for Sonny Moore. Not the case, the three-time Grammy winner will be providing an original score (collaborating with Cliff Martinez, who's most recent achievement was the stunning Drive) for Harmony Korine's pending feature film Spring Breakers. Expect it to drop sometime in 2013. If the buzz surrounding the film in Cannes this year is any indication, the film promises to be pretty damn good.
I think this film is going to turn a lot of heads in many ways. It was a lot of fun to work with Harmony because he gave me the freedom and trust to do whatever I wanted. It was also super awesome having Cliff Martinez involved too. I think the work he did on Drive was spectacular and I was a big fan before I knew he was coming onto this project. Scoring to film is definitely a different approach to music making in the sense that its not so much about how the music sounds by itself as it is finding ways to compliment the vibe of the film. I had so much fun with this project and cant wait for the final product.
We’re looking forward to Spring Breakers too.
