Call me crazy, call me old, but I really do wish that we saw more emphasis put on album cover art these days. Just because we're in a digital age doesn't mean the medium should be lost and forgot. Sure, some of the reasons cover art was important in the past (like actually going to a record store and scanning the bins until something catches your eye) may no longer be as important today as they once were, but that doesn't mean album art is no longer relevant. Imagery is still important when it comes to speaking to the music within. You still see album art as t-shirts, artists are using cover art as banners for their social media sites, 99% of the time it's what blogs use when they post a new tune from someone, record labels still use cover art in online banner ads to sell albums, it's being used on tour flyers and gig posters and other hockable items. It’s important, which is why this contest caught my eye.
Cazzette is holding a contest giving up and coming designers the chance to layout the official cover on their debut album. Set for release later this month, the title of their album is currently in the fateful hands of their loyal Facebook fan base. If you too want to leave your mark and if you fancy yourself a photoshop pro or wiz-kid with watercolour, here’s a great opportunity to get recognized.
And if that wasn’t enough to tickle your EDM culture fancy the lucky winner will also receive flight, hotel and tickets to a Cazzette show of your choice—in your continent at least.
Deadline is September 23rd. More info here. Below are a few of the submissions that have been turned in thus far.
