Event Recap: No Escape From Insomniac’s “Escape From Wonderland”

What an EDM culture (freak) show... And I mean that in the best way possible! Complete with girls in sexy outfits to Pauly D and Psy costumes, Escape From Wonderland is one of those parties that you have to see to believe.

I interviewed a few crazy personalities on who they wanted to see and the general consensus came down to Calvin Harris and the world’s #1 DJ, Armin Van Buuren.

While Calvin and Armin busted out epic sets, there were certainly a few DJs who stood out in my mind as huge players for 2012 and into 2013.

Tech house seemed to be a pretty big theme for the end of 2012 and you could really hear it in so many of the artists’ mixes. IMO, Trent Cantrelle had one of the best sets of the night as he brought amazing energy, especially as one of the opening sets.

I’ve been a pretty big fan of Norman Doray and his flavor for some time and he definitely killed it in the energy department this Halloween. The Norman Doray set could be best described as extremely versatile, going everywhere from tech house to trance and progressive while busting out awesome remixes from artists like Daft Punk.

Finally, gotta give it to the man, the myth, the legend, Richie Hawtin. His Enter. Stage was something straight out of Ibiza. Very different from the other stages with over the top LED’s, and lazer lighting, Richie had a black and white stage with very minimal lighting and shadows in the background.

2013 is going to be a very very different year for EDM fans and I’m excited to see what next year brings!
