This is a first for any Dutch electronic music festival. The VRIJ Festival, part of Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), will be showcased on YouTube today. The history-making live-stream of the concert portion will feature Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, along with Pretty Lights and Yonderboy. If you're not familiar with ADE, the conference and festival bring together over 3,000 industry insiders and 140,000 festival-goers, all in the name of EDM culture. The winner of DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ Poll will also be awarded Friday night of the conference.
A long time EDM staple, Junkie XL has produced six full-length LPs, and is getting ready to drop his first one in four years, Synthesized. You might have already heard the pulsating club anthem “Gloria” off the album. You can cop a free download here.
BTW, the XL in Junkie’s name stands for Xpanding Limits, and his 15-year career has definitely stood the test of time. He has written club remixes for everyone from Britney Spears to Sarah MacLachlan, as well as for video games such as The Sims 2: Nightlife and various Xbox games, not to mention scoring feature films.
Most impressive about Tom Holkenborg's career, the fact that he has remained true to his roots while infusing the old with the new. To catch his history-making performance at Amsterdam Dance Event comback to this page at 7:00 pm ET or 4:00 pm PT.
