Music Review: Visitors “Night Fever” EP via Disques Sinthomme

Baby, it’s cold outside but things are heating up in the club with Disques Sinthomme’s release of the new Visitors 12-inch featuring the original track, “Night Fever,” and two spot on remixes from the UK’s Idjut Boys. In this case, New York dance music icons Dennis “Citizen” Kane and Sal Principato (Liquid Liquid fame) pick up where their inaugural Visitors release, “Ledger” EP, left off.

Resistance is futile upon hearing “Night Fever”’s dark bassline and smoldering delivery by Jogyo vocalist Devi Mambouka. While mature in nature, it’s funky through and through. “Night Fever” exudes an irresistible, sexy vibe sure to be deemed essential among tastemakers and already getting play from David Mancuso, DJ Harvey, Richard Sen, Prins Thomas and Darshan Jesrani (one half of disco/house duo Metro Area).

Principato, vocalist for the first Visitors offering, adds a nuanced range of percussion to this new track, and Leftfield bassist Mark Dann provides the motor. An exotic and complex soundscape, the original composition by label head Kane fearlessly experiments with expanding Mellotron frequencies—melding retro prog-rock strings and classic disco rhythms.

The Idjut Boys have crafted two hauntingly intense remixes for “Night Fever,” complete with a surreal electro-funk flavor. A dash of dub here, some ethereal echo chamber bass there, and voila … brilliant. Good to see the North London production team Dan Tyler and Conrad McConnell are keeping busy after releasing their debut full-length album this year in July. Essential new electronic music here. Pick it up as of November 19th.
