My Shadowscene Life: Making Mummeries, Bike Night and Electro in Philly—Next Stop Boston To Hunt Yeti and Thunderbirds
I’d like to think the week prior to holiday festivities sort of slows down, but for me it just gets a bit zany instead. I felt a bit all over the map this week, but in the best of ways. I kicked my week of DJing the monthly metal and punk Bike Night in Philly under the guise of Biker Daughter and then DJd the electro bash two days later. But what took precedent was photographing the Making Mummeries party on Friday night. If you know Philly at all, you know that News Years Day is basically the mecca of holidays in this city. It's the all day Mummers Day Parade which to me is pretty much like the Running of the Bulls in Philadelphia. People spend months constructing their own costumes and performance routines and then spend the whole day drinking and acting a fool in the streets while putting on a show for the entire city. And yes, this thing is even broadcast live and you better believe it's a competition. So this year, the good ole' Mummers had a preliminary bash full of face paint, crazy umbrellas and a super packed dancefloor. As usual, I somehow came home with a new trinket in the form of a burlesque mask and woke up with some glitter in my hair. Needless to say, I can't wait for New Years Day now. My other new discovery was how airport security are completely un-phased by glitter in your hair and any sort of dishevelment. Which is good, because between banana pancakes and sipping on vintage Pepsi, I solidified my bizarre week by taking a trek up to Boston to spend a few days in the Bridgewater Triangle. I hear they've got Yeti here... and Thunderbirds. So, hopefully next week I'll have some stories from the world of paranormal activities to share. Or just a new New England style trinket.
