The 25th of this month marks the second party in support of our Far Away Radio podcast series, which features the finest in underground independent dance music. Anything ranging from house, disco, techno, and all the weirdness in between. This upcoming soiree will be taking things back into the dark depths of a downtown loft space where these DJs truly belong. While the podcasts tend to revolve around local talent, the latest party will be featuring friends who rarely make it to our city to perform as of late. Read on to get acquainted with this exciting lineup, which has been made possible with the help of our friends at 100% Silk.
Playing his first LA show in ages, Magic Touch returns west from Berlin to bring us his brand of classic-inspired house and future disco. He will be performing a special live set with his rare setup of vintage analog gear. You can read our extensive interview with him here. His latest release on 100% Silk, "Just Wanna Feel," has been turning heads on all sides of the dance music spectrum, and has recently been featured as the opening track on The Magician's latest magic tape. You won't want to miss Magic Touch as he trades in the turntables for synths and drum machines on the 25th.
It seems like luck has been on our side, since Magic Touch's label-mate, Strategy happens to be in town visiting from Portland. Strategy is another talented artist that I rather introduce as an all-around musician rather than a producer or DJ. He's been playing in many bands for years, as well as his own live solo projects. His projects tend to dive into the worlds of psychedelia and experimentation, but the Strategy project blasts analog-based, disco-infused house music the right way. Strategy will be playing a live set as well, hauling all of his gear into the building for this intimate performance.
I don't know what else to say besides the fact that we're pretty blessed to have Andrew aka Lovefingers spin a DJ set for us. If you're not familiar with the name, Lovefingers was one of the most respected and influential mp3 blogs to grace the web; just ask any disco / house / etc head and they'll wholeheartedly agree. Andrew also runs one of our favorite record labels, ESP Institute. You can learn more about all of the awesome things he does here, as he's a prime example of the professional music man. Another fun fact is that he is responsible for stocking a large portion of the dance music catalog at Mount Analog, arguably LA's best record store. Lovefingers will be playing an extended DJ set after the live acts wrap their sets up, which means he will be likely to keep us dancing till dawn (what he does best). After spending a while in Brooklyn, we're happy to welcome Andrew back to his orignal home of LA.
And of course; Cooper, Far Away curator and resident DJ, will be warming the floor up and playing records in between live acts. While he's been spending most of his time locked up in his studio over the last little while, it'll be interesting t0 hear which records he's been saving for a special occasion such as this.
The party will be taking place at a safe and secure and secret loft in the downtown area of Los Angeles. The date is Friday, January 25th and cover will only be $10 until 1:30 am, in which it'll go up to $15. A fully stocked bar and proper sound system await you.
You MUST RSVP for location information and entry. Join the facebook page and follow instructions. It all starts at 10:30pm and will go as late as you can party. Trust us, this will be a true afterhours experience and if you're a fan of authentic house, disco, and techno sounds then you best be attending. You can also sign up on Resident Advisor. Stay posted, we look forward to seeing you there.
