Our good friends over at IHEARTCOMIX are still grinding harder than ever for 2013, preparing to bring another round of exciting lineups. Coming up on 2nd at Los Globos, they’ll be treating LA to a rare DJ set from Jimmy Edgar. After a two-year break, the Detroit producer and wayward star-child debuts on Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings armed with an album full of futuristic sleaze. Known for his unique take on jacking house and electro funk, he’s recently been splitting his time between the US and Berlin, exploring transcendental meditation and the boundaries of the nonphysical. This offering is an extension of that journey, bringing eleven tracks of erotic robopop to the table. Titled Majenta, this LP is a departure from his past sound, marking a shift in his own ever-expanding consciousness, as well as another exciting chapter of his musical career.
The event also features an array of forward thinking talent set to play before Jimmy. Get familiar:
Addison Groove (aka Antony Williams) started life under a different pseudonym altogether. Recording as Headhunter, with an LP and 12” releases on the influential Tempa label stretching back to 2007, he achieved legendary status within the dubstep scene. His work at the deeper end of the spectrum graced the label an impressive 7 times, a figure matched only by Skream. This work looked set to continue until 2010 when, seemingly out of nowhere, he crafted one of the biggest bass music tracks of the decade, ‘Footcrab’, under the new name of Addison Groove.
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dean J. Grenier, A.K.A DJG, landed in the Bay Area underground dance music scene 2006 with his first 12″ “Shadow Skanking” b/w “Joyful Sound” on Narco.Hz, two slices of lithe, slick dubstep. Immediate airplay for “Joyful Sound” on Rinse FM and drops in the clubs from prominent DJs like N-Type quickly propelled DJG to the forefront of American bass music producers early on in his career.
Sodapop is Shaun Koplow, head architect and manager for the anticon record label – a lover of cats, coffee, and certain collectables. Alongside with Matthew David, sodapop has hosted a number of events under the name “calling all kids.” He began DJing at his college radio station (kalx) and also enjoyed a brief stint as a DJ on San Francisco’s pirate station west add radio. He hopes his sets display an ear for the adventurous and he hopes you enjoy what you find.
We'll choose one lucky winner at random on Thursday Janurary 31st at 11 am PST. Good luck!
