People come up with new inventions every day, it's become basic instinct, the need to create. This is why I wasn't extremely surprised when I found out about this record made entirely of ice, but I was definitely interested. The creation was the idea of Swedish indie rockers Shout Out Louds; it had been three years since they released their last album, so they wanted something a step above special to introduce "Blue Ice," the first single off their upcoming Optica, to the world. They got to collaborating with ad agency TBWA Stockholm and came up with a step above special indeed.
We talked to professors at different universities telling us it would never work out, so we had to develop the technique ourselves, said art director Alex Fredlund.
Ten kits were produced for 10 lucky fans around the world to promote the single’s release. And yes, these 7-inchers are meant to be spun on a standard turntable. The process they went through is described here in words, but take a peek at the video below to see how it was done.
