Magnetic headed out to Amoeba Records in Hollywood this past Saturday for National Record Store Day to find out exactly what it was all about. In an era of downloads, iPods and piracy it was nice to see hardcore music fans lining up to buy limited edition vinyl and CDs from their favorite artists.
It was also cool to see that people still enjoy the communal experience of the neighborhood record store. So much of our culture has become displaced because we "live" vicariously through our social media and mobile devices, Record Store Day reminds us that being out in it is a lot cooler then staring at a computer screen.
Enjoy it while you can, because Record Stores are indeed on the endangered species list and won't be around forever.
