After being antiquated and virtually erased by dubstep, jungle and drum & bass have been making a marked come back in 2013, with listeners, artists, and labels seemingly sea-sick from over wobble syndrome. Is EDM Culture getting over dubstep?
Rusko, often credited for bringing dubstep to the masses, has marked his signing to OWSLA with a new single, “Takeoff”. It’s a track that does not just have drum & bass roots, it is drum and bass, right down to its classic Jay-Z samples and rapid ratatat snare. The synthesized bass kicks in right on time, with just enough build to segue into primetime.
Rusko’s got a winner with this one, once again with enough crossover to reach the underground and the masses. With live nation and SBE pumping millions of dollars into the EDM scene, is there even really a difference anymore?
The single debuted today on RollingStone. Rusko’s debut EP will be out July 2nd on OWSLA records.
