In a festival season that seems to have corporate sponsors gaining more exposure and hype than some of the artists, British Columbia's Shambhala Music Festival is bucking the trend and remaining 100% sponsorship free.
Now in its 16th year, the five day festival is held on a private farm near Salmo, B.C. Because the grounds are private property and family run, Shambhala is able to keep the stages up year round and make improvements, allowing each of the six performance areas become more elaborate and refined each year.
2013 has no shortage of diverse talent as well with major EDM Culture headliners like A-Trak, Eats Everything and Datsik sharing a billing that also includes People Under the Stairs, Fort Knox Five, Dr. Oop, and Psychemagik. Over 200 artists are scheduled to perform. Everything from house music to dubstep, Shambhala definitely has something for everyone.
Since the festival is uniquely remote and most drive to and camp on the grounds for the five Days, Shambhala is having a series of events on July 25th in varying cities to ensure festival goers get a proper send off for their trip. Check their website and facebook more more details as the event approaches. The festival dates are August 7th through 12th.
