The Hyperion Music & Arts Festival, named for the Greek lord of light, was founded on the premise that music festivals should be as visually stunning as they are aurally pleasing. So for their second year, Hyperion has brought in six independent visual design experts to accentuate the already impressive team of lighting techs and performance artists. The end result will be a mind-altering three day party (September 5-7) the likes of which have never been seen in their midwest locale of Spencer, Indiana.
Hyperion’s music lineup is electronic centric with PLM music’s hip hop sampling superstar Gramatik as well as livetronica aficionados Papadosio, Future Rock, and Break Science filling the top spots. However, this is an experiential festival that seeks to provide something for everyone so the peppered with hints of folk, bluegrass, and crunchy jam band goodness. For those of us not based in the Midwest the undercard might seem a bit foreign but I have it on good authority that there are enough quality homegrown DJ/producers to keep this festival bumping all night.
The centerpiece of Hyperion is a unique experience which they have simply dubbed, The Picnic. Taking place the Saturday of the festival, it is a culmination of Hyperion’s inspired attitude towards entertainment. Festival goers will be able to ride mechanical bulls, compete in the beer olympics, spar in inflatable jousting and participate in parades, all while surrounded by every type of performance artist imaginable.
Hyperion is essentially the best parts of a county fair, music festival, carnival, camp-out and art exhibition all rolled into one. For festival updates and tickets visit their website here.
