What do you get when you take Cosmic Gate, Emma Hewitt, Gabriel & Dresden, Ben Gold and Governors Beach Club? A very unique stop on the Wake Your Mind tour, of course! RPM presents one-upped their already impressive production with bubble machines (who doesn't like bubbles?), shimmering aerialists suspended by silk, and the live vocals of Emma Hewitt. Check out our pictures and find out what went down on this crazy stop on the Wake Your Mind tour below the break!
For those of you in New York, you've probably frequented Governors Island a few times this summer. They've hosted countless big-name acts like Dirty South, Hardwell, Paul van Dyk, Gareth Emery; when it was announced that Cosmic Gate were bringing their Wake Your Mind tour to the sun-filled outdoor venue, we knew we had to be in attendance.
Sunday began with ominous clouds that threatened what would be an amazing day on our favorite NYC island. After numerous checks of weather.com and social media profiles, we made our way down to the Governors Island ferry prepared for rain, but hoping for the best. As we arrived, Tyler Sherritt (a last minute addition to the lineup) was blasting epic tunes that could be heard even before the ferry docked. He warmed up the already rowdy crowd that was fully prepared to dance for hours.
Gabriel & Dresden took the reigns after Tyler Sherritt had finished up and as they got the crowd going with tracks such as his own original,'Maze','Power Drive' by Pryda, Adam Bayer's 'England' and may many more as the aerial dancer began her routine. Suspended high above the crowd only by her own strength she proceeded to perform amazing feats that seamlessly synced with the music Gabriel & Dresden were laying down. Her skills impressed Dave Dresden to the point where he would take out his phone to grab pictures of the amazing scene (we can't blame him).
While Gabriel & Dresden finished up their set to massive crowd reactions, Claus and Stefan of Cosmic Gate could be seen backstage getting excited for what would be an epic set featuring the beautiful vocals of Emma Hewitt. As they dropped their own trance classics such as 'Exploration of Space', 'Drifting Away', 'Over the Rainbow' they were warming the crowd up for Emma Hewitt's live vocal accompaniment.
Emma Hewitt's stage presence is something that is hard to describe with words. She would be standing in the middle of the stage, arm pointed to the crowd belting out an emotional rendition of 'Calm Down' or 'Be Your Sound' as the music built around her; as the bass dropped and CO2 canons exploded she would already be behind the booth dancing with the Claus and Stefan. Emma Hewitt's energy was barely contained by the tent and the crowd reacted in kind. Jumping, dancing, fist-pumping; the fans gave as much energy back as they could find.
The temperature in the tent was already 10 degrees hotter when Cosmic Gate thanked the fans and Ben Gold took over to close out the show. Ben Gold, who's already a veteran of Governors Island after performing alongside Gareth Emery over the July 4th weekend, rocked the tent and kept the crowd going all the way up until closing. As the crowd receded from the tent and made their way onto the ferry, everyone had smiles on their faces and sweat-soaked clothes (what better show of approval is there than that?).
