Not to ruin Christmas or anything, but by now you should be old enough in EDM culture years to know that the Daft Punk robots aren't really robots; they are just two French dudes wearing masks and expensive suits- Sorry. If you're craving real robot music, you've got to look elsewhere.
Squarepusher's new band Z-Machines, might just be the answer. Three of its members are robots right down to the last microprocessor, and from the looks of their video, all of them hold their own when it comes to new electronic music. Plus they have Japanese Anime names like Mach, Ashuro and Cosmo. Dope right?
Here's what the press release had to say:
Referred to as 'an attempt to break new ground for emotional machine music' by its composer Squarepuhser, Sad Robot Goes Funny features the superhuman prowess of Z-MACHINES, showcasing in particular the stupendous chops of the guitarist playing multiple melody lines with 78 fingers and 12 picks at lightning speed in the latter half of the song. On the other hand, the music also tells an emotional story contrary to the image of robots always being mechanical. This makes it a truly groundbreaking piece of music from Sqaurepusher to open the way for new music of the future
