This fall is going to be a pretty big one for the headband rockin', Tom's Shoes wearing, no meet eating indie rock fans of EDM culture. MGMT's album is out in a week, and come November, it looks Arcade Fire and now Cut Copy are dropping albums at the same damn time.
Cut Copy's new album is called Free Your Mind and is slated for a 11/5 release, with the first single (out now) sharing the same name. Here's what the press release had to say:
The follow-up to the Grammy-nominated Zonoscope was recorded in the band’s hometown of Melbourne, Australia, and produced by Cut Copy frontman Dan Whitford. The band then decamped to upstate New York, where mixer Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, The Flaming Lips) added extra sonic wizardry. The result is a sound of a band that has been sending masses into abandon for years.
The record was strongly influenced by the two “Summers of Love,” which were birthed from burdening times – Vietnam and 10 years of Thatcher’s reign – though they were one hell of a party. Through unprecedented explosions of youth culture, communal elation and celebration, these eras provided a spirit that the band embraced – the need to tear down the walls of perception while creating a fantasy of what the next youth revolution might sound like. Whitford explains that, “the concept of freedom is one that's universally positive and timeless, and whatever each person's version of that freedom is, it's a good thing to be reminding people or even just ourselves to be "free".
