EDM Culture: Ten Traditions That Bring Burners Together
Once a year, tens of thousands people gather in a remote section of Nevada to form Black Rock City- BRC for short. This gathering is known to many as "Burning Man". Just like any city there our rules to follow. BRC residents, a.k.a. Burners, refer to them as 'principles'.
Over the course of time, several traditions have also emerged. Like the principles, these traditions have become engrained of the ethos of 'who Burners are". Below, we work to define ten of these traditions.
1. Sunrises and Sunsets
Burners don't believe it, but there are seven of each. No, you weren't there for just one really long day, bud.
2. Bonding through body odor
Burners reject all aspects of civilizaiton- cleanliness and hygiene too. Pass the Patchouli!
3. Pagan Rites Of Initiation
Don't you dare kill that flying cockroach in Black Rock City- for many, it's a spirit guide.
4. Homemade Instruments
You may only a see a dead tree and branches, but a Burner sees "orchestra". . .
5. The Barter System
Gifting is a principle, but the barter system prevails- avocados for acid equals 'good trade' in BRC.
6. Conservative Roots
She may be naked and unshaven in Black Rock City, but this burner babe banker is rockin' a brazillian and voting republican back home.
7. Dust Storms
Time to seek shelter? No way! At Burning Man, this is your shower!
8. The Occult
Feel the healing power of the crystal . . . meth? Oops...
9. If you haven't been, you'll never understand
Only a Burner sees the beauty of a 'lobsteroctopus' with blowtorches as tentacles.
10. acceptance of everyone
Accept Magnetic having a little fun with you. Please don't get on your double-decker Playa bike and come after us.
