San Diego is wonderful (simply put). We have a bad rep for being a lazy beach town with locals who's skin texture parallels that of crispy fried chicken, but we have an abundance of fantastic things going for us too. For example, access to carne aside fries 24/7, living in constant fear of beach cruiser theft, and an EDM scene that is far superior to yours. Hear us out.
We may not have the budget for Vegas-style pyrotechnics Wednesday through Sunday, but our EDM scene is sophisticated in a non-pretentious way. You don't have to spend 3/4 of your paycheck to get two and half men into a nightclub; we're practical like that. Our crowd of EDM scenesters are dedicated and knowledgeable. We support our local DJs just as much as we #omglove the big names that grace our dusty streets. We don't need an Armin or a deadmau5 to sell out a club--in fact we embrace newcomers that are on the forefront of superstardom. We are hospitable as fuck.
To honor all things EDM in San Diego, we're rolling out local DJ interviews and nightlife lists all week to show the world that San Diego is actually kinda cool. And in case you're not at all persuaded, here are a few more reasons why San Diego's EDM scene kills.
Reason #1 - Intervention Sundays
We realize that a pool party isn't a unique concept, but Intervention at the Hard Rock Hotel is in a league of its own. No LA-pretentious types sipping on low-carb cocktails to wash down their Xanax or groups of newly-minted 21-year olds throwing up chards of tequila into a shallow pool at Encore Beach Club. We cater to the 'rage' thirsty crowd that absolutely loves EDM.
Reason #2 - Voyeur
Voyeur is an EDM wet dream--LED lights, scantily clad GoGo dancers, goth-glam decor and a rotation of the best DJs on the planet. Voyeur also has an LED wall located behind the DJ stage with plasma screens measuring 30’ wide and 11’ high. Which means the bass will literally slap your bitch drink off the counter.
Reason #3 - Bassmnt
Not very many cities can boast having Insomniac as their bestie that invites cool DJs over to play every week. But we can. Bassmnt's event schedule features the world’s leading trance and progressive performers handpicked by the party specialists at Eventvibe and Insomniac.
Reason #4 - FLUXX EDM
Thursday nights are dedicated to all things EDM at San Diego's very own Fluxx nightclub. When it comes to innovation, progression and entertainment, Fluxx may be one of the top clubs on the planet. Fluxx's production team is unparalleled--with each new season comes a new theme that is something out of a Lewis Carroll novel. They literally had scantily clad mermaids in tanks.
Reason #5 - We're just that cool
We may not have 5-story clubs or a resident DJ formerly known as Paris Hilton, but we have a love for EDM that runs deep and fans whose thirst for good music will never be sated. We have weeknights and clubs specifically dedicated to filling your life with trance, progressive house, dustup and whatever genre Avicii's new album currently resides in. And did we mention the 24/7 access to carne asada fries? Game, set, match.
