Happy holidays to all our readers and followers. 2013 was an exciting year for Electro/Prog House, with so many memorable tracks by DJ names both new and old.
MAGNETIC RECOMMENDS:Best of 2013- ELM, Future Funk, Breakbeat & World
Here are my top 10 picks of 2013 that have electrified festivals, clubs and earbuds this year.
1. "Wake Me Up" (DABOX & Raul Mendes, Rafa Carneiro Remix) Avicii
No one can deny the artistic accomplishment of "Wake Me Up," in which Avicii dared to mix electronic with American country music with great success. The DABOX and co. production stands out among the surplus of "Wake Me Up" remixes and continues to be one of my most effective weapons at my DJ shows.
2." I Love It" (Tiësto's Club Life Remix) Icona Pop feat. Charli XCX
Tiësto hands down won the competition of who could craft the best remix of Icona Pop's insanely popular single. His remix caught my attention while listening to his EDC Las Vegas set, and it even makes my friends who disavow EDM jump.
3. "Slow Down" Showtek
This is the definition of a festival banger, and was the first time I heard about Showtek. "Booyah" may be more popular, but I believe "Slow Down" is more satisfying for those seeking the purest adrenaline rush.
4. "Boing Clash Boom" (Bingo Players Remix) Dada Life
R.I.P. Paul Bäumer of Bingo Players, who tragically lost his battle with cancer. His memory lives on through the amazing productions the duo has put out over the years. I started sneaking in this remix into my Top 40 nights when I first started as a DJ and dazzled clubgoers with its heavy electro riff.
5. "Guns for Hands" (Dzeko & Torres Remix) Twenty One Pilots
This is my favorite of the DJ duo's indie rock remixes this year. The progressive melody melds beautifully with the original's pleading vocals.
6. "Bananas" D.O.D.
I still remember walking to work when I first heard this banger and feeling like the ground was falling out beneath me. Always packs a punch when I unleash it on the dance floor. D.O.D. is definitely one to watch in 2014.
7. "Siren" (Kill the Buzz Remix) Kat Krazy feat. Elkka
I agree with Hardwell that Kill the Buzz is one of the top DJs to watch in the new year, and this is the track that put him on the map. The energy balance in the remix screams perfection, starting at 0, introducing vocals with a soft background melody, then giving way to a cresecendo and banging chorus.
8. "Surge" Clockwork
This song made Clockwork an Electro Household name, pun intended. The track delivers a unique chorus interplaying Wynter Gordon's voice with synths that sound like robots singing "Ah's."
9. "Move Your Ass" Robbie Rivera
This is one of my current weekend weapons, as Chuckie calls them. The looped vocals really creep up on you and command the crowd to grind to the tribal-electro beat.
10. "La Tromba (Chris Lake & Nom De Strip Remix)" Chris Lake & Marco Lys
The energy in this track is amazing, combining epic instrumentation in the verse with a glitchy earth-shattering beat in the chorus. Expect Chris Lake to continue his output of insanely high energy tracks in 2014.
